Sandu Pottery
I am Stefania Casto, I grew up studying art. First at school, then at the Academy, in Brera, where I
studied painting. With this training I worked as a decorator for several years. Then I
I returned to study Color and Expression and worked with children in experiential workshops.
In 2018 I met Uwe and fell in love. Living with him, I was lucky enough to
slow down my frenetic pace and so I stopped, to reflect on what I really wanted
Do.
The ceramic light bulb came on easily, because I've always liked getting my hands dirty.
The thing that excites me the most is being able to create everyday objects; seeing how a
clay ball becomes an object of your table. It seems like real magic.
Uwe Rasmussen was born in Denmark. He moved to Italy for love and here he decided to
stay, because he was in love with his mountains. It was the other part of Sandu Pottery, he took care of the appearance
more technical. He followed the firings, experimented with the enamels and patiently assembled the jewels. Furthermore
it had the task of bringing me back down to earth, when I was getting lost in the creative process.
In March 2023, a sudden heart attack took Uwe away.
Sandu Pottery lives on. It is our project and it continues to feed on this love.
The passion for this work saves me every day from the pain of its loss. Every piece that
I create and then it goes around the world, it is the confirmation of how much this love has done for me.
